10 Etiquette Rules For Meeting.

Hello There.

The last time i post something here is about three weeks ago. I been busy with other this and of course busy with my primary blog. Today i would like to give a reminder to myself and i think it might be useful to you. Meeting is something that most of the people do. whether you in a big or small cooperation, whether its a corporate or closing a deal at mamak stalls, there always an etiquette at the meeting.

My job scope right now require me to attends meeting. Mostly the meeting is about listening to other companies presentation. So far i've seen so many people with different character in a meeting. So mow im gonna share with you the etiquette rules for meeting.

1) be on  time
Make sure you be on time and prepare for the meeting.  You dont want to waste everyone else's time by not being punctual. If you need to present something, make sure the presentation meterial is prepared before the meeting start.

2) make introduction
If Everyone doesn't know one another in a meeting room, you need to to make introduction. You should start this with the highest rank first.

3) have a strong agenda.
This is a part of being prepared, but you should have a good, strong agenda so that you can stay on the track. If you do get off track, you should have a strong facilitator to get you back on the track.

4) sit appropriately
If its a dit down meeting, you need to adjust you chair so that you're equal to everyone else on the table. Some people dont adjust their chair and end up being the little kid on a meeting.

5) Speak Up
When people speak in a meeting they need to speak loudly enough so that everyone can hears what they are saying.many people especially women do not speak loud enough and speaking softly is a subtle non verbal action that can affect your professionalism.

6) Understand the unwritten speaking rule.
Its not polite to interupt others, but in some meeting, you have to interrupt at some point or you wont be heard.Understand the rules so that you can have a productive meeting.

7) Do not have your phone out.
A lot of people like to keep their phone on a table during a meeting. Please dont do this because even when you are not looking at your phoneit can be distracting to others when its start lighting up or make noise. Its best if you keep you phone inside your pocket. Some say textiong during a meeting is very rude.

8) You can drink coffee, but you need permission for anything else.
If you're going to eat, it needs to be OK with the entire group. "You can make noise or give off smells" that are disruptive, so it needs to be OK with everyone especially the chairperson. From my experience this happen a lot if you have a meeting with government agencies coz they love to have something to eat while meeting.

9. Clean up after yourself.
This is especially true if you were drinking or eating during the meeting. You need to clean up after yourself and leave things the way you found them, Otherwise, it's not professional.

10. Don't save all your questions for the end.
Ask your questions at the appropriate time. Do not be the person who starts "asking questions and adding stuff that doesn't need to be added" when everyone's getting ready to go.

So that is the 10 etiquette rules for meeting. this was prepared by Babra Patcher , a career coach and a author of  "The Essential of Business Etiquette" and i adjust some point so that it can related to every levels of meetings.

So, thats all tips that i can share with you guys for now.Next time maybe i make a tips on how to deliver a good presentation. I've seen a very good presentation normally from a good corporation and some that not to say a bad presentation kindda boring a bit.hehehe

Depression

Hello There

Depression is one of those diseases that are often invisible. You can look well-groomed and even cheerful on the outside, while on the inside you feel like you’re dying a slow death

This is what happen to some people in reality. Luckily for me, i dont fell depressed at my workplace. I admit i had some bad time at work but so far its doesn't make me depressed.

So, what are main cause of this sort of situation? For me there are 2 reason why people depressed at workplace. First thing is the workload, some people who cant handle pressure will affect if there much workload to be done at so little time.

The second thing is unfairly bosses,  feeling of being treated unfairly by the management that has the greatest effect on an employee’s mood. This is include bosses and immediate supervisors.

There many ways to avoid depression at workplace. One of them is to keep up with social activities even if you don’t feel like it. Often when you’re depressed, it feels more comfortable to retreat into your shell, but being around other people will make you feel less depressed.

So that all what i have to say about work depression. If you feel that you are depressed, don't worry because you are not alone. till we meet at my next entry.

Sincerely

Men Are All The Same.

Hello there,

Men are all the same, jokes

Im having this idea during my lunch at the office. Have u heard when a girl/women said like all men are the same or when a man said that all the girl/women are the same. As a gender are we all the same? Let me give my opinion on this and i'm using "all men are the same" as a reference.

Let say if a girl is being through a lot of relationship in her life but end up with a bad result. First thing came into her mind that all men cant be trusted and they all are the same. Its became worst if the girl doesn't trust men anymore and decide to be lesbian or what so ever..

So, let look at the situation here. Instead of blaming all men are the same could it be because all her preference is the same. For example, if her preference is bad boys than she need know how to handle them or end up get hurt over and over again.

If you the kind of person who like your man to take control of the decision than you have to change into a person who can accept other decision. I know its hard to look at our weakness but sometime we have to because it can help us to make a better decision int the future.

Finally what i'm saying doesn't reflect my situation or anyone i know. I'm just writing for general purpose. Maybe this entry doesn't relate with you but you'll never know, maybe your friend might need it one day. That's for now and see you in my next entry.

Missing Someone

Hi There,

missing, love, girl

Missing someone is one of the feeling that i think most of the people dont like. I dont know how to tell if u missing someone? In my definition when you miss someone all thing that happen around you is about him/her. I'm telling this in the context of missing a person.

Although many people think that the worst feeling to miss someone, but some might disagree with this. It’s simply because the sweet pain and you can for sure enjoy missing someone. The only thing you need to remember is that you have to miss the golden moment you spend with each other.

Thats why when you in the relationship, its important to have the golden or sweet moment to remember when you are missing someone. But in my opinion moments have it own limits and if u keep using repeatedly one day its gonna fade away..

So if you in relationship dont forget to collect your sweet moment as many as you can and dont forget to tell him/her if you missing them. Dont let you ego stands between you and you love one...Life is too short; if you love or you miss someone do let them know.

Just Have Faith

Hi there,

I told myself 4 day ago that i will try to update this blog at least once a day. But after 4 days i manage to update just two entry and its all because of the comment box. When i start this blog before i used "discus comment box" and at some point i feel that the comment box is not user friendly.

So few day ago i tried to revert to old blogger comment box but it seems not working. After few hours in front of my PC, a pack of cigarette and countless puff of e-cigarette i finally manage to switch back to the old comment box.

I almost give up and about leave this blog dormant again before i found what went wrong. Like my school teacher used to said "Usaha Tangga Kejayaan",hahaha. So moral of the story for myself today is not to give up easily and just have faith.

Thats all for know and i come back when i have something to share...

Suspect’s Confession Not Admissible in Court

Hye Readers,,

In the Star Online today a criminologist said that A confession alone is not admissible in court and it does not mean that the person who confessed has committed a crime. Its simply The person could be mentally ill or covering up for someone,

But what happen when confession leads to discovery of the body, evidence that only the accused could have this knowledge then it has to be admissible in courts. is that not enough to convict a killer??

He explained that such statements would only be admissible if they were backed up by physical evidence such as DNA or blood and collaborating statements from witnesses if there were any.

Look like we have to wait for the police to finish their investigation about this case before we jump into conclusion.

BODY IN SUITCASE: Online friend allegedly killed her after rape attempt

BODY IN SUITCASE: Online friend allegedly killed her after rape attempt

PETALING JAYA: NG Yuk Tim, the 15-year-old girl reported missing on Monday after she was allegedly dropped off at the Kelana Jaya LRT station by a friend whom she  met online, is believed to have been murdered.
This came about following the discovery of a body stuffed in a green suitcase in Jalan Kebun Nenas, Shah Alam, last night.
The discovery was made following a confession by the suspect, a 23-year-old man.
Selangor Community Policing Association chief Kuan Chee Heng said the revelation came to light after a meeting between the association and Ng's mother and several friends concerning her disappearance.
Kuan, speaking at the police headquarters here yesterday, said the meeting was organised to shed light on her disappearance.
The suspect was among those at the meeting as he was purportedly the last person to have had contact with her. It is understood that the suspect and Ng had met via an online social network.
"I noticed that he (the suspect) had peculiar injuries on his hand. As he was the last person who had sent her off to the LRT station, I decided to question him further," said Kuan, a former policeman.
After questioning, the suspect confessed that he had killed Ng.
The suspect claimed that he brought Ng, who had just finished her Penilaian Menengah Rendah examination, to his house in Cheras.
When the suspect allegedly attempted to rape Ng, she retaliated by biting and scratching him, causing him to strike her with a dumbbell.
He then allegedly stuffed her body in a suitcase and dumped it in Jalan Kebun Nenas.
Kuan brought the suspect to the district police headquarters here, where he was questioned for several hours.
He led a police forensics team to the scene where he allegedly dumped the body.
The body was recovered at 10pm. Police also went to the suspect's home to gather evidence.
Police seized the suspect's van, which was believed to have been used to transport the body.
At press time, police had yet to issue a statement on the case.

Government wins appeal, Herald banned from using word 'Allah' over public safety

PUTRAJAYA: Catholic weekly The Herald will not be allowed to use the word "Allah" to refer to the Christian God, ruled the Court of Appeal.

The panel, chaired by Justice Mohamed Apandi Ali, overturned a High Court decision and unanimously ruled Monday in favour of the Government's appeal, saying that the minister had not acted in any way that required a judicial review.

The court also found that there had been sufficient material considered by the minister in taking action under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.

The court set aside all orders made by the Kuala Lumpur High Court in conjunction with its allowing the Church's judicial review back in 2009, with no order as to costs.

The panel, which also included Justices Mohd Zawawi Salleh and Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahim, each prepared their own judgments, though Justice Mohamed Apandi read a brief summary, saying the full judgment was over 100 pages long.

"Our common finding is that the usage of Allah is not an integral part of the Christian faith. We cannot find why the parties are so adamant on the usage of the word," he said.

The court found that such usage of the word would cause confusion and that in the interest of public safety, chose to grant the Government's appeal.

"The welfare of an individual or group must yield to the interest of society at large," said Justice Mohamed Apandi, adding that this should be read alongside the constitutional freedom of religion.

Senior federal counsel Suzanna Atan represented the Government, while lawyers Porres Royan and Annou Xavier acted as counsel for the Church.

Xavier told reporters that they will only be able to confirm in several days time whether the Church would appeal to the Federal Court.

The Home Ministry and Government were appealing against the Dec 31, 2009 High Court decision in allowing the church's judicial review to lift the Ministry's ban on the use of the word "Allah" in The Herald to refer to the Christian god.

On July 9, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur had filed an application to the strike out the Government's appeal although it was later unanimously denied by another Court of Appeal panel.

The church, led by Archbishop Murphy Pakiam, had filed the judicial review on Feb 16, 2009, naming the Home Ministry and the Government as respondents.

They sought, among others, a declaration that the decision by the Home Ministry on Jan 7, 2009, prohibiting the use of the word 'Allah' in The Herald was illegal and that the word 'Allah' is not exclusive to the religion of Islam.

The weekly, published in four languages, has been using the word 'Allah' as a translation for 'God' in its Malay-language section, but the Government argued that 'Allah' should be used exclusively only by Muslims.

The three judgments of the case (W-01-1-2010) can be found on the Judiciary website.

35% drop in job vacancie

PETALING JAYA: Jobseekers, especially fresh graduates, are feeling the heat from the softening job market.

The extended retirement age, higher operational costs coupled with lower revenue and an uncertain world economy are reasons behind the drop, according to Malaysian Employers Federation’s (MEF) executive director Shamsuddin Bardan.

He said the number of job vacancies registered by employers in June 2013 dropped by 35.7% to 107,796 compared with 167,968 vacancies at the same time last year, citing statistics from Jobs Malaysia, an online job matching service under the Human Resource Ministry.

Shamsuddin said jobseekers were competing for fewer openings as about 915,000 private sector employees had been retained in the workforce for the next five years with the extension of the retirement age from 55 to 60 after the Minimum Retirement Age Act 2012 came into force on July 1.

“Many employers also prefer to adopt a ‘wait and see’ attitude because of the uncertain world economy. They are also bracing themselves for the full impact of the minimum wage policy in January,” he said.

Shamsuddin said companies, which faced higher operating costs and earning lower revenues, had stopped hiring as one of their cost-cutting measures.

“Some employers are already offering the voluntary separation scheme (VSS) and other packages for employees to leave, so the likelihood of them taking in fresh graduates is very slim,” he said, adding that the current unemployment rate was only about 3%.

Some 180,000 fresh graduates enter the labour market yearly, after most public university convocations are held in September and October.

Manpower Malaysia country manager Sam Haggag said multi-national companies (MNCs) were restructuring and rationalising their permanent headcounts in anticipation of what was expected to come.

“Companies are managing costs. Hiring is on hold for most jobs except in senior technical positions and niche areas like biosciences and R&D. Some companies are letting their employees go and those that are hiring, are doing so on contract basis,” he said.

Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) president Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon said electrical and electronics (E&E) companies might have undertaken cost cutting measures to sustain operations.

“To cope with slower demand from major external markets, companies have stopped hiring new staff or put filling up vacancies on hold. The softening of the job market could be due to the RM4.99bil drop in export demand from January to June this year.

“Also, the higher retirement age raised in July means a reduction in new intake,” he added.

On the lower ranking positions, he said many companies could be stabilising their workforce by requiring “more multi-skilling and multi-tasking” workers because of the challenging business environment. The FMM represents 2,678 members.

MyStarJob Network Sdn Bhd head Serm Teck Choon said there was a “definite drop” in vacancies and that the job market had not picked up since January.

“Pre-GE13, the job market was slow because companies adopted a wait-and-see attitude but post election, vacancies are still on the decline.

“The feedback from my online job portal, print media and headhunter networks is that there are fewer jobs out there,” he said

Khairy suggests counting Gelang Patah votes to decide Youth vice-chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said the result of voting at Gelang Patah youth division should be used in deciding the vice-youth chief after two candidates received equal number of votes.
He pointed out the possibility of dispute involving the parties involved if the popular votes method was used to settle the stalemate.

"If we can count the votes at Gelang Patah division, there is no need for popular votes. If we use the popular vote method, it will lead to conflict.

"It is better if we can settle it through vote counting in Gelang Patah," he told a press conference with Umno vice-presidential candidate Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein after a Rangkaian Sahabat Muda programme here tonight.

A total 191 Umno youth divisions concluded their elections yesterday except for Gelang Patah which was postponed due to internal problems.

Earlier, Umno Election Committee chairman Tan Sri Tajol Rosli Ghazali when announcing the election results at Menara Datuk Onn tonight said Jamawi Jaafar and Khairul Azwan Harun, each received 73 votes, from 190 divisions.

As such, he said the result for number two post would be decided based on the counting of popular votes.

Popular vote is based on the actual number of votes which is given by the delegates to every candidate.

Khairy said: "I have discussed with Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan whether we want to implement the suggestion by Tan Sri Tajol, namely, to count the popular votes, or we settle the case of Gelang Patah division."

Meanwhile, Jamawi when met by reporters, said he was confident the result would favour him if the popular vote counting was implemented based on his record of acceptance at the divisions.

But, he stressed that he would accept with an open heart if the result went against him.

Meanwhile, Khairul Azwan when contacted, declined to comment on the matter

BAT’s share price falls due to cigarette price increase

Hye Readers,

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — British American Tobacco (BAT) emerged top loser as at 11.44am today as its share price fell as much as 50 sen to RM62 after the company raised its cigarette price. The increase is effective from today. Yesterday, BAT announced it was raising its cigarette prices by RM1.50 for the 20-stick pack, both for its premium and aspirational premium-brands, respectively

BAT’s brands include Dunhill, Pall Mall, Kent and Peter Stuyvesant. Kenanga Research said it understood that the price increase came in response to a 14 per cent excise duty hike. It brought the total excise duty per box of 20 sticks to RM5.

“Although BAT has been making good progress in strengthening its market leadership over the years, the overall legal market consumption has been declining due to increasing competition from illicit white cigarettes.

“Should this trend continue, BAT’s domestic volume could be affected further, despite ongoing efforts to diversify the group’s exposure in the fast-growing contract manufacturing segment,” it said in a research note today.

The research house maintained a “market perform” call on BAT and raised its target price to RM63 from RM61.36, previously. Meanwhile, HLIB Research in its note said the price hike announcement turned out to be a negative surprise and the move is the third over the last two years.

In June this year BAT announced a three per cent increase in cigarette prices citing rising operating costs. “We believe the price increase would result in a larger impact towards BAT’s cigarette volume as the hike is much steeper as compared to previously,” it added. The research house maintained a “hold” call on BAT with a target price of RM59.86. – Bernama -
